How
to Become an Approved Driving Instructor - ADI
The
Theory (Part 1) Course
This part of the course is over one day from 9.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon then from
2.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m.
Part 1 courses are planned well in advance aiming to accommodate your preferred
days of the week (Monday to Saturday inclusive) Remember, this part of the
course may be on a 1:1 basis or with varying numbers of other trainees. The
costs are the same.
Course confirmation, the programme, accommodation details, travel directions and
the receipt is sent to you either by post or e-mail within 5 working days of
receiving the application form and fee.
Following introductions and an outline of the course content whole group, small
group or 1:1 sessions begin.
Topics will include:

The Driving Standards Agency and the
Driving Industry
2.
Qualifying as and grading of ADIs
3.
Qualities and characteristics sought from
ADIs
4.
The Part 1 examination, including:

the “L” Driving Test

the Driving Test report form DL25C

the Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) Regulations
-
the theory and practice of learning,
teaching and assessment
5.
The Part 2 test, including:

driving technique car control
-
road procedure
-
hazard recognition / proper response
-
dealing safely with other road users and pedestrians
-
the use of safety equipment
-
vehicle suitability
-
knowledge of basic car mechanics, car design applicable to
give driving instruction
